video sharing for link building

Google is the number one search engine in the world, compared to the number of users. Do you know the second most used search engine?

Many internet marketers tend to forget that YOUTUBE is the second most used search engine in the world. YouTube has a high PageRank, authority and number of visitors and is owned by Google. What else do you need to know??

Video sharing for SEO

Like anything at SEO, start with a keyword analysis. Your goal is to find the right keyword or keyword phrase to end up in the top three on the first page of Google, using YouTube.

In general, Google is using video results for specific types of keywords. When you enter one of the following keywords or phrases, the first results are video’s:

  • How-to keywords
  • Reviews
  • Tutorials
  • Anything fitness or sports related
  • Funny stuff

Just like with text based articles, longer video’s rank better. A video should be around 5 minutes to get noticed and ranked high. When you conduct a search for ‘Wordpress’, 3 out of 4 videos are an hour long.

Although YouTube algorithm is getting better and better, understanding what the video is about still isn’t really well. You can help YouTube by adding a full description to the video and again use the keyword you are targeting.

When you are writing the description, use at least 250 words and put the link to your website at the top. Use the keyword in the title and in the first 25 words of the description. Do NOT use the keyword more than 4 times to avoid penalties for keyword stuffing.

The SEO-optimized description help Google and YouTube determine what your video is about. In addition, add a few tags to the uploaded video. It is not really important, but it helps a little.

Bonus tip!

Remember the Q&A link building strategy? Share the video to question and answer sites to get more views. In order to rank for high competitive keyword, you need to get more views.
